Depicted in the classic Toltec–Aztec style, the figure sits cross-legged with arms crossed over the chest, wearing a tall feathered headdress and geometric collar.
The sculpture was acquired from the estate of a sociology professor who traveled extensively throughout the world during his career, living for extended periods among different cultures and collecting significant artisan works along the way. While not an excavated antiquity, this piece is an authentic mid-20th-century Mexican artisan carving, hand-tooled in the tradition of Pre-Columbian forms.
